3 Ways to celebrate international day of older persons
We all love our grandparents but we don’t always show them that love in obvious ways. So in honour of HO3 celebrating International Day of Older Persons let’s take a look at some ways we can all celebrate the grandparents of our communities.
- Call them/give them a hug
Isn’t it nice to get a call from a friend that you haven’t seen in a while?
Fun fact: Resolution 45/106, passed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14th 1990, declared October 1st to be the International Day of Older Persons.
- Play games with them
People seem to think that old people are lame or boring but trust me squad members put a deck of cards, a checkers board or some other small game in front of them and watch their faces light up and enjoy a super engaging and fun time with them.
Fun fact: The World Health Organization (WHO) has always played a big part in the day and actively promotes public awareness of it.
- Pamper them
Our elders do and have done so much for us both growing us and before we came into the world, the least we can do is take a day to pamper them. Make them a nice cup of tea, or if you can, their favourite meal. Check if they need help with around the house and help out so they can kick their feet up for a bit.
Fun fact: Several other initiatives came before this day was established such as the Vienna Plan of Action on Ageing which was adopted in 1982.
These are just a couple of ways that you can show your love and celebrate your elders this October 1st and we do hope you try them but if you have any other ideas on how to celebrate your elders let us know in the comments below.
