Today in the HO3 kitchen, we’re breaking boundaries by making carrot bacon.

Food can be enjoyed and cooked in so many different ways so why limit yourself? This is a great alternative if you’re vegan, don’t eat bacon or even if you just want to try something new. Carrots are an all-around winner! Not only are they healthy, but they can be eaten in so many different ways – Steamed, Raw or even Puréed. But did I mention that they are extremely healthy? Yep, they are!

Not only are they healthy, but they can be eaten in so many different ways – Steamed, Raw or even Puréed.

Let’s take a look at some carrot benefits:

  • Healthy hair and skin: Because of the Vitamin A found in carrots, it can help to protect our skin cells against damage from the sun’s harmful UV rays!
  • Healthy teeth and gums: The essential minerals found in carrots, have the ability to prevent bacteria from growing in our mouth and with tooth decay!

Let’s take a look at all the ingredients:

  • 2 carrots
  • eggs
  • 2 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

The equipment we’ll need to cook:

  • 2 vegetable peelers
  • bowl
  • air fryer
  • spoon

You must wipe down anything before you use it, to make sure that it’s clean and safe to use.

STEP 1: Peel your carrot, lengthwise, to get long even pieces of carrot.

If you don’t feel comfortable enough using a vegetable peeler, be sure to ask a parent or guardian for some assistance.

STEP 2: Let’s get started on our marinade. This is really going to give our carrots a bacon-like flavour.

STEP 3: In a bowl, mix the liquid smoke, syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika and black pepper. The liquid smoke will give our carrots and Smokey taste, which will help to resemble the taste of bacon. You can totally skip out on the liquid smoke and just use the smoked paprika. It will give the exact same effect.

Give the marinade some time to settle to help all of the flavours combinations.

STEP 4:  Now that our marinade is beautifully combined, it’s time to add our carrot slices to it. Make sure that the carrot slices are evenly covered in the marinade.

STEP 5: Once the carrot slices are fully coated, place in the air fryer for 4 minutes at 350 degrees Celsius. If you don’t have an air fryer, don’t worry. You can just place it in your oven, and let it grill. The air fryer is going to fry our carrots, without us having to cook it in oil.

STEP 6:  This step is completely optional, but what is bacon without some eggs? You can fry some eggs while you wait for your carrot bacon to finish frying. After you have finished frying your two eggs, you can dish your Carrot Bacon with your eggs on the side in your plate and ENJOY!
